The lush landscape of Kauai has led to it being called the ‘Garden Isle’, but it is also referred to as the ‘Island of Discovery’, and with good reason. A land of stunning natural contrasts, just waiting to be explored. Soaring emerald green mountains, sparkling rivers, canyons and caves, verdant tropical rainforests, a breathtaking coastline and secluded white sand beaches combine to make this magical place one of the world’s most relaxing locations.
Kauai has enough to keep you busy for weeks but if you had to do everything in one day, here's how we would suggest you spend your time to see the very best of this specatucal island.
Head fo the North Shore and the fame Napali Coast, exposed to the trade winds and big waves. Make sure you have your camera with you.......the views are simply intoxicating.
A little further ahead is authentic old-time Hawaii in the form of charming little town of Hanalei. From the end of Hanalei Pier the mountains form a stunning backdrop on three sides, complete with rainforests, waterfalls, the mist hanging along the mountaintops and everywhere, rainbows.
Most of the major resorts are located on the south side of the island along with many of the best beaches, golf courses and many activities. Drive south from the airport in Lihue towards the Poipu area, through the 'Tree Tunnel', into historic Old Koloa Town. Venture further along the south shore and spend time enjoying the exotic gardens and sweeping views of Kukuiolono Park.
A few miles further down the road is the Hanapepe Lookout with fabulous views of the valley and the Hanapepe River.
Waimea should be your next stop - the gateway to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and Koke's State Park. The Canyon is one of the most famous natural features of the islands......over a mile wide, 10 miles long and almost a mile deep, its many scenic lookouts provide some of the most breathtaking views in the islands. Kauai offers visitors a vast range of recreational activities, from scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing, fishing, golf, tennis, hiking, horseback riding, gardens, cultural exhibits and attractions and of course magnificent sightseeing.
