Summer is all about hiking, boating, biking and basking on the beach at Gregoire Lake Provincial Park. Fort McMurray has three 18 hole golf courses set in the beautiful boreal forest. In Alberta’s north the sun sets a lot later in the day enabling you to golf longer on warm summer evenings. Fishing in pristine wilderness is available year round in the north. Reel in a trophy fish from a remote crystalline lake in warmer months.

When the temperature drops try your hand at ice fishing – a favourite local pastime. In winter, snowshoe, cross-country ski or snowmobile along groomed trails through the boreal forest 30 km (19 mi) southeast of Fort Mac. Be sure to take a snowmobile tour to see the breathtaking northern lights.

Heritage Park is Fort McMurray’s own little village locked in time. See the great river boats of yesterday at the Marine Park, Alberta’s only shipyard.
