Annapolis, the colonial capital of Maryland, is a vibrant city, located on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay and is a paradise for water lovers, famous for its crab cakes, lighthouses, and 500 miles of gorgeous coastline. It is proud of its charming colonial heritage while offering visitors the latest in dining, accommodations, shopping, and entertainment.

Annapolis is also known as  America’s Saling Capital and is home to the United States Naval Academy and is well known as a center of sailing and boating in the Mid-Atlantic. The neighborhood of Eastport, across the bridge from downtown Annapolis, retains much of its old maritime character, showcased at the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

Historical Annapolis

A visit to Annapolis is not complete without a tour of its historic district. It has some of the finest examples of colonial homes, including the Hammond-Harwood House and the Charles Carroll House. There is a rich African-American history honoring those who arrived as slaves, including Alex Haley’s ancestor, Kunta Kinte, at the Kunta Kinte-Alex Haley Foundation Memorial. The Maryland State House, the oldest state capitol is still in use today.
