Cambridge

Located one and a half hours from Toronto, in Grand River Country, Cambridge boasts over 80 parks, and its Farmers Market is rated one of the best in Canada.

Originally made up from the city of Galt, the Towns of Hespeler and Preston, and parts of the Townships of Waterloo and North Dumfries, this eclectic mix of towns now makes up modern Cambridge and the history of the area is just as diverse. The impressive architecture spans a mix of Gothic Revival, Romanesque Revival, and Second Empire architectural styles.

Today, Cambridge is a bustling, cosmopolitan city that hosts an array of activities. Other than world-class shopping and dining opportunities, Cambridge boasts many special experiences to make your vacation a memorable one.

Experience the African Lion Safari and the Butterfly Conservatory, or enjoy nature at the Shade’s Mills Park, where you can swim, fish, and canoe along the lake and river. Mill Race Park hosts festivals and other events year-round within its eccentric stone amphitheatre.

Alternatively, visit the Hamilton Family Theatre, a state-of-the-art facility offering a world-class experience with incredible acoustics and an intimate performance space

London

Located along the Thames River, London is the largest municipality in southwest Ontario. It is nestled between Lake Huron and Lake Erie. London, Ontario is known for its festivals, museums, and parks. Named after the city I’m sure you have heard of; London was originally intended to be the capital of northern Canada. Instead, it has blossomed into the ‘Forest City,’ and today, it is home to such attractions as Labatt Brewery, Fanshawe Pioneer Village, and the musical festival SunFest.

London takes its status as ‘Forest City’ seriously, which is why you can find your share of beautiful nature trails and parks. One of the most popular is Thames Valley Trail, ideal for hikers and anyone who wants to go outside and enjoy nature. The trail is 110 km long, and it will take you through country roads and conservation areas.

From eateries and museums to various nature trails and parks, London has a little bit of everything. If you’re travelling with kids, make sure to stop by Storybook Gardens, an outdoor park with six amusement rides, multiple play areas, and a giant splash pad.

For foodies and festival lovers, look no further than Covent Market, which has been around since 1845. The market offers fresh produce, restaurants, and specialty stores, as well as biweekly goods straight from local farmers’ markets.

Port Stanley

Port Stanley is a historical working fishing and tourist village on the North shore of Lake Erie. The main attraction in Port Stanley is the incredible stretch of beach, that hugs the north shore of Lake Erie and the mouth of Kettle Creek. The beach is one of only 27 in Canada to have earned the official Blue Flag status for its excellent care, including water quality, environmental responsibility, and safety measures.

A short walk into town will bring you to ice cream parlours, boutiques, antique shops, delicious eateries, and more. The town of Port Stanley resembles a romantic painting of a fishing village, complete with a picturesque marina, lighthouse, and piers.

Families with little ones in tow will love a visit to Great Lakes Farms. Enjoy apple picking in late summer or early autumn. There’s a play area for the kids, featuring a giant climbable pirate ship, as well as a zip line, sandbox and diggers, a corn maze, straw mountain, and tractor rides on the weekends. Of course, you may purchase apples, apple-based products, and other goodies while visiting.
