Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is located on the Pacific Northwest Coast of Oregon, 80 miles west of Portland and 25 miles south of Astoria, and is surrounded by the rugged natural beauty of forests, beaches, rivers, and the Oregon Coast Mountain range. Famous for Haystack Rock towering 235 feet from the edge of the shoreline, long sandy stretches of beach, and beautiful State Parks nearby, Cannon Beach offers an exceptional Oregon Coast experience.

The picturesque small-town village by the sea is easily walkable and visitors can explore meandering pathways, and enjoy public art and courtyards spilling over with flowers. Known as one of the Northwest’s top art towns, Cannon Beach is filled with art galleries, specialty shops, cafes, and fine dining restaurants. Just minutes from downtown Cannon Beach is Ecola State Park, perched dramatically on the edge of a headland and offering panoramic coastal views, easy walking paths to scenic picnic areas and extensive hiking trails.

Gleneden Beach

Located on the central Oregon Coast five miles south of Lincoln City near the beautiful Siletz Bay, Gleneden Beach is home to incredible wildlife viewing sites and rugged oceanside cliffs. Visit historic Nye Beach which attracts tide pool enthusiasts and beachcombers as well as surfers, sailboarders, crabbers, clam diggers, kite flyers, photographers, and artists.

Visit the working harbour in Newport, or see ocean denizens up close at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Yaquina lighthouses. Discovered in 1778 by Captain James Cook, Cape Foulweather is one of the highest points along the Oregon coast at 500 feet. Activities include whale watching.

Stroll along the streets of Lincoln City and browse the many stores. If you have some extra time—about an hour—take a scenic drive up Highway 101 to the Tillamook Cheese Factory for a self-guided tour and scrumptious ice cream.

Gold Beach

Drive along the spectacular Oregon coast overlooking rocky headlands to Gold Beach, a small seaside town where the Rogue River meets the Pacific Ocean. Head for the Port where you will see lots of great fishing boats, barking sea lions lazing in the sun, an 1880 vessel sunken in the harbour, and even a small museum. Visit the fish market and stroll around the shops offering fresh ice cream and foaming cappuccino and gift shops featuring the work of local artists. And whilst you are there, you have to rent a crab ring and go crabbing!

Enjoy the wild side of life from the excitement of salmon fishing, rafting or taking a jet boat tour on the mighty Rogue River, to the adrenaline rush of windsurfing one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world. Walk along the miles of uninterrupted, secluded beaches and hike the windswept headlands or watch the amazing animals on land or in the sea, or even capture nature’s perfection in a photograph or painting inspired by the gorgeous scenery.

Florence

Located on the central Oregon coast along Highway 101, Florence is a scenic and charming old mill town. Old Town boasts a myriad of quaint shops and restaurants, and there is a marina tucked onto the waterfront inhabited by a chorus of sea lions.

Whilst in Florence, why not visit the Sea Lion Caves? The world’s largest sea cave is located 11 miles north of Florence and offers intimate views of Sea Lions in their natural habitat. If feels a privilege to descend the 200 feet into the home of the wild stellar sea lion.

If time allows, also make a stop at Wildcat Bridge, located on a small winding road a short distance from Highway 126. From the bridge site where Wildcat Creek flows into the Siuslaw River, Stagecoach Road hugs the hillside until it drops into the narrow plain at Swisshome. Stagecoach Road was the original road to the coast but was bypassed after the Linslaw Tunnel and Mapleton Bridge was built in the 1930s.

Newport

If the Oregon Coast is calling your family for a spring road trip, Newport is a good answer. Just two and a half hours from Portland, this friendly fishing town of 10,000 is rich in ways to enjoy the wild creatures of the Pacific Ocean. Strolling along the waterfront, you’ll hear the raucous barking of the sea lions before you see them lolling about on the sunny docks. Stand above and watch them roll their plump, sleek bodies into the water.

This scenic city is home to two lighthouses — including the tallest in Oregon. Oregon’s lighthouses can provide exciting history lessons that are worth exploring. As the seasons change, surf and sand often seem to merge into a golden, sun-burnished moment along the coast. The rocky headland called “Yaquina” (pronounced “Yuh-quinn-uh”), marked for miles by a towering white sentinel on the central Oregon coastline, is a wonder. Once a lonely outpost above rocky cliffs, Yaquina Headland and Lighthouse are anything but lonely on crisp, clear days as tourists wander across some of the most accessible tidepools in the area.

Brookings

Brookings is located along the Wild Rivers Coast and boasts some of the warmest temperatures on the coastline. The southern entry to the Oregon Coast is a base camp for recreation on the Chetco, Rogue, Elks and Sixes Rivers. From Port Orford to Brookings, the highway hugs some of the most dramatic and rugged coastline in Oregon, lined with sea stacks and rock formations. The Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor stretches for 12 miles with several viewpoints worth exploring.

Pacific City

Sitting on the edge of the Three Capes Scenic Drive, with the stunning Cape Kiwanda as its headland, Pacific City is a peaceful beachfront town offering plenty of outdoor pursuits. Rooted in its coastal call to adventure, Pacific City offers an untouched authentic gateway to unique experiences that can only be found on Oregon’s North Coast. Discover heart-pumping surf, the thrill of Dory Boats launching from the beach, the reward of climbing the Great Dune of Cape Kiwanda, or a kayak trip down the gentle Nestucca River to the Pacific Ocean.

It’s also the birthplace of Pelican Brewery, the only beachfront brewpub in the Pacific Northwest. This inviting establishment welcomes guests with tantalizing beer cuisine, intimate brewery tours, and, arguably, the most incredible beach patio experience around.

Your coastal playground awaits in Pacific City, Oregon.
