Flaming Gorge

Flaming Gorge National Recreational Area is a scenic 200,000 acre playground for boating, water skiing, rafting, camping and fishing.

As a huge reservoir, Flaming Gorge is limitless in its recreational opportunities and for this reason, continues to be a very popular attraction in Utah, hosting more than 2 million visitors a year.

Vernal is a small community just south of Flaming Gorge and is located 240 miles east of Salt Lake City and 20 miles from the Colorado border.

Vernal is also home to The Green River which flows through the region, providing blue ribbon trout fishing and exciting white water rafting. The Uinta Mountains shelter hundreds of lakes and streams teaming with trout. These are the highest mountains in Utah and offer great opportunities for hiking, backpacking and horse or llama packing. Neighbouring state parks, Steinaker and Red Fleet also offer a myriad of outdoor activities.

Vernal is home to the largest quarry of Jurassic dinosaur bones and the Dinosaur National Monument is located 20 minutes east of Vernal. Take the kids to Dinosaurland, the only place in the world where you can view and touch over 1,500 dinosaur bones all in their original resting place.
