San Luis Obispo
Tucked between the Coast Range, the Pacific Ocean and right in the middle of Central Coast Wine Country, San Luis Obispo enjoys all the spoils of a life well lived on the California coast. Halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on historic Highway 1, San Luis Obispo enjoys year-round sun, a warm Mediterranean marine climate, a world-class wine region and thousands of acres of protected open space.
Downtown you’ll discover charming shops, restaurants and the weekly SLO farmers market with vendors selling flowers, food and other local produce. With a handful hotels tucked into turn-of-the-century mercantile buildings, and a burgeoning night life and cultural scene it’s no wonder that this town has won awards. Among it all is the beautifully preserved Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. Along the shoreline from May to October the star attractions are humpback whales on route to Baja for the breeding season. Boat excursions and whale watching tours will provide up close encounters and memories to treasure for a lifetime. You can also enjoy surfing at Morro Bay or swimming at Avila Beach, which offers slightly warmer water and calmers waves. Visit the Olde Port Fish Market at the end of Port San Luis Pier, where fishmongers cook up crab and sell their fresh caught produce. This laid back, sleepy beach town offers a fantastic array of activities for all.
