Chilko Experience Wilderness Resort, Cariboo

The resort is nestled within a 5 million acre pristine wilderness tract, which is more than twice the size of Banff and Jasper National Parks combined. If you’ve never heard of the Chilcotin, you are not alone – it is home to fewer than one person every 50 square miles. This vast wilderness of the Chilcotin region contains an astonishing array of ecosystems that cannot be found together anywhere else in the Earth’s temperate regions. There are semi-arid grasslands nearly extinct anywhere else, dormant volcanoes, ancient glacier complexes, waterfalls, the tallest mountains in British Columbia, and the awe-inspiring Chilko Lake. The resort is situated at the north end of the lake, the largest high-elevation lake in Canada. 65km in length, 366m in depth, this lake possesses an abundance of secret spectacles. As you would expect, such a magical wilderness is in a remote location. However, getting to Chilko Experience Wilderness Resort is not as difficult as you would imagine. Charter flight – 1 hr from Vancouver. Commercial flight – 1hr from Vancouver to Williams Lake, then 3 hour scenic drive. Road trip – 10 hr drive from Vancouver. Helicopter – 90 minute flight from Vancouver.

LOG HOMES: Among sweeping lawns, lush woodlands and emerald green waters are nestled six unique, custom built luxury log homes. Each was individually designed and handcrafted by world-class master craftsmen. THE TOWER HOUSE: The spectacular Tower House is an architectural wonder that must be seen to be believed. A 2,500sq ft luxury log castle, it is comprised of open kitchen and living space, glass dining-room and expansive decking on the lower floor, open bed/lounge room, bathroom and two balconies on the second floor, and an observation tower and deck on the top floor, overlooking the private lake. Its special loft design makes it the perfect romantic getaway for two.
