The lodge’s proximity to the site of the first Hudson’s Bay trading post in the Yukon gives this spot a rich historical resonance. Frances Lake is located about 300 km east of Whitehorse in the largely unspoiled southeast Yukon. The Campbell Highway, a well-developed gravel road, provides the only road access leading through the hilly back country to Frances Lake. You can arrive by car in Frances Lake, where the lodge collects you up at the boat ramp and bring you by motorboat (a 30 minute journey) to the lodge. Alternatively, you may choose to fly in by float plane – directly from Whitehorse or you can be collected by minivan shuttle service from Whitehorse or Watson Lake.
Sitting in the foothills of the northern Rocky Mountains, the lodge consists of a main house and five lovingly crafted guest cabins. Each rustic cabin offers lake views, wood stoves, warm quilts, kerosene lamps, a fresh water tank and portable flush toilets. The shared hot shower and wood-fired sauna are located in a separate log cabin close to the lake. A wonderful experience to enjoy, you will be comfortable but don’t expect luxury amenities – this resort fits perfectly into its wilderness setting, just as it should be.
