This morning, you’ll drive to Mammoth Hot Springs to explore this bubbling and steaming geothermal area and take your first opportunity to witness Yellowstone under a blanket of snow. Follow the easily accessible boardwalks to explore and photograph this unique geothermal wasteland that surrounds you. The perfect place to warm up after a day on the trails is with a nice drink in front of the lodge’s fireplace, or whilst relaxing in the hot springs for the quintessential Montana experience.
Home to an incredible array of wildlife such as wolves, elk, bison and Bighorn Sheep, the Lamar Valley is often referred to as ‘America’s Serengeti’. For the first time in more than 70 years, wolves have recently been reintroduced to the park. Today you’ll travel around Yellowstone tracking wildlife accompanied by a professional wildlife tracker who has dedicated their life to working with the park’s wildlife, including wolves. This evening, soak in the lodge’s hot springs or relax with a drink at the bar area.
Yellowstone National Park is the oldest and grandest of the national parks in the USA. With magnificent mountain scenery, abundant wildlife and spectacular geothermal activity it draws people here from all over the world. Today, you’ll experience a private guided snow-coach tour on the way to Old Faithful Snow Lodge, where you’ll spend the next three nights. Along the way, you’ll stop at various scenic points of interest and spot plenty of wildlife. Tonight watch Old Faithful erupt into the night sky, just moments from your accommodation.
For the next few days, you’ll be exploring from your excellently situated lodge in the epicentre of the park. Although the roads are covered with snow, you’ll still be able to experience the trails which make Yellowstone so popular. Take a two-hour cross country skiing lesson before navigating your way through this winter wonderland, with your group or at your leisure, on a trail of your choice.
Today you’ll have more time to wander the geothermal pools at leisure after a three-hour guided snowshoe tour to help you find your ‘snow legs’. Your guide will point out interesting facts about Yellowstone and the flora and fauna you encounter surrounding your lodge. This evening, take a walk along the boardwalk at the Upper Geyser Basin in your snowshoes, or enjoy some time with a warm drink around the lodge.
This morning, keep an eye out for wildlife on the scenic route back to Bozeman. Your guide will point out various points of interest along the way. You’ll arrive at Mammoth Hot Springs in the early afternoon where you’ll transfer independently back to Bozeman. Your tour with Grand American Adventures ends at 17:00.
There’ll be time for some last minute shopping or sightseeing before you transfer independently back to the airport for your flight home.
