    Clear Water

The sugar white sand and tranquil crystal clear Gulf waters combined with an average of 361 days of sunshine per year and a temperate, mild climate make for the ideal beachside paradise. Watersports include speed boat rides, parasailing, jet skis, wave runners, scuba diving and snorkeling. Fishing and boating are also options and of course dolphin watching.

On land, you will find an abundance of beautiful golf courses both public and private for players of all skill levels to enjoy.

Clearwater Beach offers a variety of shops on Mandalay Avenue and Gulfview Boulevard, everything from souvenirs and resort clothing, to surfing equipment and keepsakes, and everything else under the sun.

Open-air dining overlooking the water provides the perfect chance to catch the incredible Clearwater sunset while elegant candlelight dinners are the perfect counterpart to casual beachside days. Dining cruises in the Intracoastal and out in the Gulf of Mexico are a wonderful way to explore the gorgeous area. The Gulf of Mexico is home to an abundance of incredible seafood, so it's no mistake that Clearwater is well known for its fresh daily catches. Of all the Gulf's bounty, grouper is undoubtedly the hometown favorite.

    St Petersburg

Relax and work on that suntan on the stunning white beaches or head into the ocean and enjoy your favourite water sport. Have fun jet skiing, snorkeling, parasailing, diving or spearfishing. If you are looking for something a little more mellow, try SUPing (stand up paddleboarding) or kayak through the mangroves.

There is a choice of fabulous golf courses with spectacular views. Considered one of the area’s best-kept secrets, the Donald Ross-designed Dunedin Golf Club offers a challenging, traditional course at an amazing value.

There’s an abundance of shopping opportunities whether you’re looking for local flair or high-end shopping. The Tyrone Square Mall in St. Pete and Westfield Countryside Mall in Clearwater showcase national brands and great shopping. If you’re looking to get some Florida favorites, head on over to John’s Pass Boardwalk in Madeira Beach. The Central Arts District in St. Pete offers numerous art galleries with great local works of art.

All along the coast, beachfront restaurants offer up fresh-caught fish and seafood and there is a vast choice of multi-ethnic culinary delights. From fine dining to casual fare, there is something for everyone.

    Tampa

With its world-class theme parks and exciting nightlife, engaging museums and glorious golf, tranquil canoe excursions, wall-to-wall sunshine and some of the Gulf coast's best shopping and dining, Tampa makes an ideal starting point for a fabulous Florida twin-centre.

For fun-loving families, there are water slides and vertical dives (plus all sorts of animal encounters) waiting at Busch Gardens and Adventure Island theme parks; or come face to face with sharks and stingrays at the wonderful Florida Aquarium. As for more grown-up distractions, Ybor City and the SoHo Strip offer excellent dining and nightlife. Tampa is at the heart of Florida's fledgling gourmet scene, so give your taste buds a treat at one-of-a-kind restaurants, and wash it all down with made-in-Tampa craft beers.

Then when you're ready to hit the beach, it's an easy drive to the coastal resorts of Clearwater, Sarasota, Marco Island, and Naples. So make your next beach break a city-and-sea twin centre to guarantee double the fun.

    • Top Tip 1

From May to October, look out for the sea turtles laying their eggs in the sand and the subsequent migration of the hatchlings from their nest to the ocean. Some turtles will lay up to 250 eggs in the one nest! Naples is a great place to experience this.

    • Top Tip 2

Driving through the Florida Keys is straightforward as there is just one road in and out - Highway 1. Everything is measured by 'Mile Markers'. Start at MM127 and go through to MM0, which is when you know you've arrived in Key West.

    • Top Tip 3

Whilst in the Keys, visit the Dolphin Research Centre in Marathon. You'll not only learn all about our favourite marine mammal, you can swim with them too.

    • Top Tip 4

For the best Florida shopping experience, and there are plenty of them, our vote goes to Mizner Park in Boca Raton for a relaxed, upscale shopping and dining experience.

    • Top Tip 5

Another 'must do' shopping experience is of course Worth Avenue, Palm Beach, even if it's just for a little window-shopping.

    • Top Tip 6

There are lots of toll roads in Florida, and you may find you're on one soon after you leave the airport so be prepared with some quarters to save time. Charges vary but expect to pay approximately $1.50 each time.

    • Top Tip 7

For a really fun experience, take an airboat ride on the Everglades spotting alligators and manatees. It's an experience that all the family will enjoy.

    • Top Tip 8

If you're travelling during the summer months, be prepared for afternoon showers most days. They only last a couple of hours and it soon dries up...and of course it's usually warm rain!

    • Top Tip 9

Longboat Key, Naples and Marco Island are three of Florida's best kept secrets. All have wonderful beaches as well as great golf, fine dining and luxury shopping.

    • Top Tip 10

One of Florida's most scenic drives is route A1A which hugs the coast all the way from Fernandino Beach in the north to Fort Lauderdale where it becomes Highway 1 and continues down to Key West.
