A cosmopolitan city surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas, Salt Lake City is the urban heart of Utah's thriving Wasatch Front, and Utah's state capital. The city combines upscale amenities with easy access to outdoor adventure, making it the ideal launching point for any Utah holiday.

The centrepiece of Utah's capital city is historic Temple Square, home to the world headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), boasting millions of visitors annually.

Salt Lake City boasts a vibrant dining and nightlife scene, where modern American cuisine and inventive cocktails provide a perfect ending to a day of outdoor fun. Salt Lake City's shopping destination is City Creek Center, reflecting Utah's distinctive combination of urban sophistication  and natural beauty with more than 100 retailers and restaurants and a creek that meanders through the centre.

In the foothills surrounding Salt Lake City you will find a patchwork of trails for hiking and biking. Located only two miles from downtown, the mouth of City Creek Canyon offers a great hiking trails meandering up the canyon and the Bonneville Shoreline Trail is a must for mountain bikers marking the rim of prehistoric Lake Bonneville (now shrunk to the Great Salt Lake).

As its name indicates, the Great Salt Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi and the largest salt water lake in the western hemisphere. The lake and its islands offer opportunities to sail, kayak, float, birdwatch, hike, bike and more. At the Great Salt Lake Marina you can launch a kayak or boat, go on a sunset cruise, or take in the spectacular view. For those who want to give swimming a go, the best place to swim or float in the lake is at Antelope Island State Park, though it is over an hours drive from downtown.

Park City, just 30-40 minutes from downtown, was the home to the winter Olympic Games and a pretty mountain town.
