The heart of Philadelphia is home to some famous landmarks including City Hall, Reading Terminal Market, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Independence Hall. At the end of the day, a must-visit is Penn’s Landing and the Delaware River Waterfront, buzzing with fun events and places to eat.

Historical Pursuits

From the signing of the Declaration of Independence to the first Constitutional Congress, Pennsylvania’s history is inseparable from the birth of American history. And, with ties to American manufacturing, they still have several factories and mills that produce goods the way they were made years ago. With battlefields connected to both the Civil War and Revolutionary War, Pennsylvania has many sprawling battlefields and forts. You’re sure to get a more holistic view of battle strategy, and a deeper connection to the state’s past, as you admire the earthworks and battle maps.

Famous as the site of the biggest battle of the Civil War, spanning over just three days of July 1863, where thousands fought and died, Gettysburg is truly a town of huge historic proportions. The surrounding Adams Country offers outstanding scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. There are many opportunities to relive the battle of Gettysburg. Watch a re-enactment or imagine the battle at the Gettysburg Battlefield, travel through the Gettysburg National Military Park, with over 1,000 monuments and cannons along over 40 miles of scenic roads. Visit the National Military Park or the 6’000 acre Civil War military park by horse, Segway, carriage, bus or from your own car.

Covered Bridges & Noteworthy Museums

Nothing says quaint Pennsylvania than the covered bridges. With nearly 200 covered bridges across the state, Pennsylvania is home to the most remaining covered bridges in the U.S. Their various architectural styles and classic bold colors set against natural landscapes make for some amazing shots, so don’t pass up your chance to capture these pastoral throwbacks to rustic Pennsylvania culture.

With the states creativity and artistic talent, it’s no wonder they have such an appreciation for museums. Stop by The Andy Warhol Museum to see several original Warhols and learn about the pop art icon. Take in some history at the National Civil War Museum or get an up-close look at lockdown at Eastern State Penitentiary. There’s a museum for nearly any interest.

Get Outdoors

Wonderful wilderness, breathtaking beauty, not to mention a decent workout — hiking is the perfect way to spend the day. Hike a section of the U.S.’s longest hiking-only path, the Appalachian Trail, or discover the ancient trees of Cook Forest where the Hemlocks and Pines are more than three hundred and fifty years old.

The Pocono Mountain Region is renowned for its natural scenic beauty, enveloping seven state parks and over 150 lakes and rivers for year round splendour. An amazing assortment of outdoor attractions and recreation awaits visitors, from skiing and snow tubing in the winter to hiking, horse riding, fishing and boating in the warmer months.

During the fall, Pennsylvania bursts into oranges, yellows and crimsons, making the countryside perfect for everything from photos to scenic drives.

Of all the amazing views, one that is rarely mentioned is the amazing view of the stars. In fact, there may be no better place to stargaze in the Northeast. Pennsylvania boasts some of the darkest skies on the Eastern Seaboard, which makes the view of the Milky Way even more stunning.

Brandywine Valley & State Capital

The eastern region of the Keystone State is a mixture of incredible beauty, warm hospitality and rich history. This is home to Valley Forge, a place of great historical significance, where General George Washington forged his army in 1777. In Brandywine Valley you can find several boutique wineries, famed artwork and the Delaware River Wildlife Sanctuary. Take a ride on an antique carousel, steam locomotive, hot air balloon or mule-drawn canal boat in delightful Bucks County.

Pennsylvania Dutch Country has an electric mix of cultures and heritage. Harrisburg, the state capital, sits on the banks of the Susquehanna River. The ornate dome of the Capitol Building dominates the skyline and tours can be enjoyed around this five acre historical structure. The National Civil War Museum attracts visitors from across the globe.
