Deep South Holidays

One of the most popular holiday destinations in the USA, it is no surprise that Deep South America continues to attract a wide variety of visitors. Culture vultures, foodies, music lovers, history buffs, sports fans, outdoor adrenaline seekers are all well taken care of, whether choosing Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana or a multiple-combination of these states.

Deep South USA has been responsible for the birth of America’s music and the invention of the cocktail. Although the incredible tastes of the Deep South were a relative secret until recently, the culinary world now knows it has all the hallmarks of what makes the region great: the variety and range of influences and a dedication to flavour.

The proximity of the Deep South states, means that a multi-state fly drive is not only possible, but a wonderful opportunity to discover the highlights of each. We have a wide selection of itineraries showcasing one, two or three of the states and a number of themed itineraries. Should these not meet your needs, we can create a journey, unique to you, taking in everything you would like to see.

Louisiana

In Louisiana, you pick your passion and let the good times roll. The exotic sister state has a unique blend of food, music, history, sports and nature at their best, steeped in the colourful legacy of the French, Spanish, British, Caribbean and African cultures. Discover bayous and gators in the Southern wild and tour historic towns and stately plantation homes while you’re at it. Immerse yourself in lively places like Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Lafayette and New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz and home to Mardi Gras and the stunningly beautiful French Quarter. It’s all Louisiana, all the time.

Alabama

Alabama has been at the crossroads of American history since the beginning. See Civil War battlefields, tour antebellum mansions or visit Montgomery, Selma and Birmingham, where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many others changed the nation and the world in its wake. Explore the final frontier in Huntsville’s U.S. Space & Rocket Center, the largest space attraction on the planet. Got rhythm? Meet the King of Country Music Hank Williams and hear the stories behind the music of Muscle Shoals’ FAME studios. Enjoy live music and fresh from the Gulf seafood in Mobile by the Bay and nearby Gulf Shores.

Kentucky

Kentucky’s geography varies from the Appalachian Mountains in the east to America’s largest inland peninsula “Land between the Lakes” to the west. In between are beautiful rolling hills, enticing waterways and bluegrass horse country. Kentucky is best known for horse farms (with Lexington being the horse-breeding centre and many of its surrounding farms welcome visitors on free tours), bourbon distilleries, mountain hollows and moonshine stills, fried chicken, bluegrass music and, of course, the famous Kentucky Derby which is held annually in Louisville.

Mississippi

Still got the blues? Come on down to Mississippi for some thrilling live music, history, outdoor fun and authentic down-home cooking. You’ll be glad you did! Everybody’s a winner in America’s second largest casino destination, because there’s a lot to love between the lush Mississippi Delta and the year-round sunny Gulf Coast beaches. Explore the historic Natchez Trace Parkway or look for more than 150 markers along the Mississippi Blues Trail. Remember to find your way to the Elvis Presley Birthplace in Tupelo.

Tennessee

Lasting memories are bound to be made in Tennessee. Enjoy world-renowned live entertainment in Nashville on any night of the week, right around the corner from the Grand Ole Opry, RCA Studio B and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Fans and families will love Dolly Parton’s theme park Dollywood in the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As the home of the blues and birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll, Memphis knows its way around legends. Meet Otis, Isaac and Aretha in the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, visit Elvis at his beautiful home Graceland or tour the original Sun Studio. You’ll remember Tennessee forever.
