Skylands Region

The Garden Region’s highest point, appropriately named High Point State Park, is in the heart of the Skylands Region and where you can experience the best of the great outdoors.

Hike some or all if you are feeling energetic of the 72 miles of the Appalachian Trail that stretch through the Garden State. The Skylands Region offers some of the best outdoor activities including hiking, fishing, and camping in the warmer months and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and ice fishing in winter.

Major events include the New Jersey State Fair held in early August and New Jersey’s Biggest Oktoberfest held in early October.

Gateway Region

Nestled along New Jersey’s north-eastern corner, this region is the entry to an urban oasis steeped in history and culture. Gaze at the majestic Statue of Liberty from New Jersey’s Gateway Region and follow it up with dinner at a diner, this area of New Jersey has the most diners in the world and is a diners’ fan paradise!

The Gateway Region is rich in culture and history. It boasts easy access to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island and is home to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, Thomas Edison’s home and lab in West Orange and Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. Also in Jersey City is Empty Sky, the state’s official 9/11 memorial and Newark has the moving Wars of America statue. By the same artist who designed Mount Rushmore, this World War I memorial features 42 men and two horses. At the New Jersey Botanical Gardens at Ringwood State Park, stroll 96 acres of gardens blooming with flowers. Free guided tours are available on Fridays.

Delaware River Region

New Jersey’s Delaware River Region, where strolling main streets of days gone by and hiking winding trails in secluded forests make you feel like you’re in another time. With more than 150 miles of shoreline along Delaware Bay and the Delaware River, the Delaware River Region is a boater’s delight. Rent a canoe or kayak from any number of vendors or visit Delaware River Tubing for a lazy float down the river.

Add some culture to your visit with stops at Camden’s USS New Jersey, the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history and Princeton’s War Memorial. Other attractions in the Delaware River Region include Camden Children’s Garden, where kids can ride the garden carousel or climb the treehouse and Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, home to 270 outdoor sculptures.

Award-winning wineries can be found throughout the region, including Coda Rossa Winery in Franklinville, which produces an Ameritage (it’s an award-winner) and an assortment of other wines. Beer drinkers also have options here, with breweries like Berlin Brewing Company offering microbrews made in-house.

Shore Region

It’s true that New Jersey’s Shore Region has more than 90 miles of white-sand beaches. But with lighthouses, roadside produce stands and more, a beach day here is anything but ordinary. Beaches as far as the eye can see, with water activities and other things to do, are the hallmark of the Shore Region. Fishing and bird watching are available at Island Beach State Park in Seaside Heights. Long Beach Island alone has 16 dedicated surfing beaches. Sandy Hook Lighthouse, the nation’s oldest working lighthouse, stands tall in Highlands. And of course, there’s the opportunity to relax with nothing but a towel between yourself and the white sand. For more excitement, go from zero to 128 mph on one of the thrill rides at Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari in Jackson. Water parks in the area let you slip and slide your way to fun and the Silverball Museum Arcade in Asbury Park can’t be beat for pinball lovers.

The Shore Region is where you can find Jersey-fresh fruits and vegetables at rustic roadside stands and much of it is being cooked up at farm-to-table restaurants, too. Harvest in Farmingdale prepares dishes with locally grown ingredients; try the quinoa risotto or a garden sandwich. On the other side of the spectrum is Joe Joe’s Italian Hot Dogs, where Italian franks are piled high with fried onions, peppers, and potatoes.

Greater Atlantic City

Home to New Jersey’s tallest lighthouse, plus sizzling nightlife, and luxurious spas, the Atlantic City Region of New Jersey is where greatness lives. Yes, gaming at the many casino resorts is popular, but Atlantic City offers so much more. Relax in one of the resort spas with a massage, facial or other treatment. Shop more than 100 stores at Tanger Outlets and score some bargains (remember, there’s no sales tax on clothes or shoes!).

Pedal a cruiser or surrey bike along the boardwalk. Climb the 228-steps of Absecon Lighthouse, New Jersey’s tallest. Visit the 9-foot bronze statue of Lady Liberty at the Liberty in Distress World War I Memorial. Take in the expansive view at New Jersey Pinelands National Reserve or glimpse bald eagles and great blue herons at Wharton State Forest & Batsto Village in nearby Hammonton.

Ready to eat? Don’t miss the famous saltwater taffy; a local staple is James’ Candy Company, where flavours run the gamut from traditional strawberry and chocolate to New Jersey’s original teaberry, a minty berry. For a more filling meal, savour some local seafood at Tavern on the Bay in nearby Somers Point. Favourites include the crab cake and the baked oyster’s trio.

Southern Shore Region

With fourteen beaches of which several are free, New Jersey’s Southern Shore has a beach for everyone. Ocean City was named Coastal Living’s Best Beach in America, peaceful Cape May oozes Victorian charm and The Wildwoods promises year-round fun with a full calendar of events. The region is home to seven free beaches, where activities like parasailing, surfing and the calmer mini golf are popular.

Corson’s Inlet State Park in Strathmere offers opportunities to view local wildlife and Soldiers Monument in Cape May honours those who served in World War I. Children will love Cape May County Park & Zoo, the state’s largest zoo, or burning off energy at Cumberland Mall’s play area. Spas, breweries, and vineyards throughout the region round off the fun.

Atlantic City

Superior Deluxe	Among the finest the world has to offer, hotels in this category are exclusive, lavish and indulgent. Needless to say, you will enjoy the highest service levels, superb accommodation and outstanding facilities and public areas.
