'Nothing tastes as good as grandma's cooking' is a common response to even some of the most gastronomic feasts. Well now you can taste 'grandma's cooking' whilst visiting New York, thanks to Enotica Maria.

Enoteca Maria is a 30 seat restaurant located on New Yorks Staten Island. Rather than a tribe of chefs, the kitchen is run by a roster of grandma’s. There are almost 30 of them, ranging from 50 to 90! Hailing from all corners of the globe, including Syria, Japan, Kazakhstan and the West Indies, they serve up delicious menus four nights a week, with daily specials posted online.

Founder Jody Scaravella told the Washington Post ‘the real story behind this place is grief – my own personal grief after losing a lot of my family and trying to recreate them’. Opened in 2006 in memory of her late mother, and with a two week minimum waiting list, this is a beloved dining establishment with authenticity and special meaning.
