Baker City, Eastern Oregon

Baker City is located in Eastern Oregon, where miles of scenic byways, alpine wilderness, working cattle ranches and basalt canyons are still the place for explorers to make their mark.

Baker City is more than a charming downtown. You will want to visit the award-winning Barley Brown’s Brew Pub and the more than 100 historic buildings, but it is also the centrepiece of Baker County which is renowned as ‘the base camp of Eastern Oregon’ — which includes Snake River, the Oregon Trail, and Hells Canyon.

Take time to visit the Adler House Museum, a restored 1889 Italianate home which was once the residence of Baker City philanthropist Leo Adler. Also make sure you include the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Centre on your itinerary, offering a wonderfully in-depth look at the legendary history of the route.

HELLS CANYON

Located in the northeastern corner of the state bordering Idaho, Hells Canyon, at 2,412 metres (7,913 feet) is the deepest river-carved gorge in North America, deeper than the Grand Canyon.
