Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Anchorage, Alaska. Upon arrival, independently make your way to your hotel, where you spend the first night of your adventure.
Hotel Captain Cook, AnchorageTake some time to see the sights around Anchorage as you don’t meet your fellow travellers until later for an orientation. Maybe take an organised tour so you make sure you see the best attractions? You may also choose to arrive earlier to have an extra night or two. This evening you’ll enjoy a hosted group dinner at a favorite local restaurant.
Today you grab your H-D Pan America adventure bike and start the real adventure as you leave Anchorage, hugging the banks of the Matanuska River along Alaska’s famous Glenn Highway. A favorite stop today is at Matanuska Glacier, before making your way through the Wrangell St. Elias Mountains and down along the Klutina River. It’s a toss up on what is more exciting today; the amazing motorcycle roads or the incredible views. Your home for the next two days is Copper Center which sits along the banks of the Copper River and is the gateway to the million acre Wrangle St. Elias National Park and Preserve.
Today is a down and back ride, but it’s worth every repeat mile. From Copper River, you cross the Thompson Pass, known for receiving the most snowfall in Alaska at over 500 inches per year. You’ll stop at Worthington Glacier, which is just 29 miles outside Valdez, then cruise into town. Valdez, while home to some of the best halibut fishing in the world, as well as the terminus of the Alaska Pipeline, is just as famous for being the namesake of the ship that spilled over 11 million gallons of oil into Prince William Sound in 1989, the Exxon Valdez. You will have some time to enjoy this great town before heading back to Copper Center for another night of incredible views and a great time with your fellow riders.
The Richardson Highway from Copper Center to Fairbanks offers an amazing riding experience that winds through the heart of the Alaska Range. Incredible mountain and glacier views and very little traffic make this the best stretch of motorcycling in Alaska. You’ll stop for photos and lunch in Delta Junction, the terminus of the ALCAN Highway, before making your way into Fairbanks for the night. You can’t come to Alaska and not enjoy the best salmon in the world, which is exactly what you’ll do tonight at the famous Fairbanks Salmon Bake.
You will kick off an incredible day with a true once in a lifetime adventure. Based on availability, you will have an option to take a flight over the Arctic Circle that includes a stop in the remote town of Cold Foot where can receive a certificate for having travelled north of the Arctic Circle. Afterwards, you’ll grab a quick lunch and make the ride to Denali for the night.
Today you will enter into the National park in hopes of the weather cooperating and giving you a clear view of Denali, the largest mountain in North America at 20,300 feet. From there you will make your way south to the town of Talkeetna known for being the base camp for climbers that attempt to summit Denali. After a casual lunch in Talkeetna you will finish your day with the ride into Anchorage. Tonight, it’s a hosted farewell dinner, with a chance to say goodbye for now to your new family of riders, and maybe even start making plans for next year’s ride.
You may choose to stay on in Anchorage for more sightseeing or a tour. Otherwise, you make your way to Anchorage Airport and check in for your flight back to the UK.
