Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad winds through spectacular landscapes and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two million acres San Juan National Forest to provide an unforgettable year-round adventure.

This experience allows you to travel by coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive along the same tracks which miners, cowboys and settlers of the Old West traveled over a century ago. Departing from Durango, the train hugs the Animas River, which commences high in the San Juan Mountains and ends at the San Juan River in New Mexico, during its 45-mile journey to Silverton.

One of the last free-flowing rivers in western USA, the train crosses the Animas River on five occasions allowing for fabulous photography. This scenic journey operates between May and October and offers a choice of four classes of travel; Economy, Deluxe, First and President Class.
