The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum, inaugurated in December 2017, serves as a poignant tribute to the challenges and triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement in Mississippi. As visitors journey through the exhibits, they are immersed in the harrowing history of racial segregation and terror faced by African Americans at the hands of segregationists and white supremacists, including the Ku Klux Klan, prior to the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. Carefully curated displays extend through to the present day, illustrating the progress made as a nation in the ongoing struggle for Civil Rights, while also highlighting the continued work needed to ensure equality and justice for all individuals.
