Day 1

Arrive Anchorage

Depart the UK on your chosen scheduled flight to Anchorage. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel under your own arrangements. Anchorage is Alaska’s largest city, nestled between the Chugach Mountains and Cook Inlet. Anchorage provides an excellent start to your Alaskan holiday and offers an abundance of shopping, cultural attractions, and a great selection of restaurants.

Day 2

Anchorage to Seward

Early this morning, transfer on your own to the Anchorage railway station to board the Alaska Railroad to Seward. This scenic journey takes you along Cook Inlet and into the glacier filled Kenai Mountains. Upon arrival in Seward the rest of the day is at your leisure. The Alaska Sea-life Centre, a world-class marine research facility funded by the Exxon Valdez oil spill settlement, is recommended as well as adding a dog sledding tour or guided sea kayaking excursion.

Day 3

Seward to Anchorage

This morning you will depart on a six hour cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park. The park boasts abundant wildlife, alpine and tidewater glaciers, and breathtaking scenery. As you cruise through Resurrection Bay keep watch for Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, eagles and whales. You will also cruise along the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, home to a large variety of birds, on your way to either the Holgate or Aialik Glacier. If you spend long enough at the glacier, you’ll see ice calve off into the ocean with a thunderous splash! A lunch is served on-board. Following your cruise, you’ll take the Alaska Railroad back to Anchorage, arriving at approximately 10:15pm.

Day 4

Anchorage to Talkeetna

This morning head back to the rail station to board the Alaska Railroad train bound for Talkeetna. On clear days the Talkeetna area has awe-inspiring views of Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley), North America’s tallest peak. This afternoon you will embark on a two hour jet boat adventure aboard the Talkeetna Queen. Cruise to a wilderness site where you will take a leisurely quarter mile nature walk to an authentic trapper’s cabin, complete with original furnishings and see how trappers lived in ‘Bush’ Alaska at the turn of the century. Your guide will display raw furs from the local area, demonstrate trapping methods, and acquaint you with the wildflowers and plants that grow in abundance here. Along the river you will have the opportunity to look for bald eagles, beavers, and possibly even moose and bears.

Day 5

Talkeetna to Denali National Park

You’ll have some free time to explore this morning. Perhaps take the opportunity for more excursions in Talkeetna, such as flying in a ski-plane to mountain Denali. Your journey continues north by train to Denali National Park, arriving at approximately 3:30pm. The afternoon is free to enjoy as much or little as you please. Optional tours include river rafting and hiking. Tonight we recommend the delicious salmon dinner and amusing antics served at the Cabin Nite Dinner Theatre Show.

Day 6

Denali National Park to Fairbanks

Early this morning, you’ll depart on a bus tour of Denali National Park. This tour takes you through the best wildlife viewing portion of the Park Road, approximately 55 miles into the park. As you travel through the pristine wilderness, look for wildlife, such as bears, caribou, and moose, as well as views of the Mountain. Your experienced driver/guide will provide commentary and make stops during your eight hour adventure. In the afternoon, you’ll travel by train to Fairbanks, with an evening arrival of 8:00pm.

Day 7

Fairbanks & Tok

Start your day with a tour of historic Fairbanks including a visit to the University of Alaska’s Museum of the North, the Trans Alaska Pipeline, the Morris Thompson Cultural Center and Pioneer Park. In the afternoon enjoy a sternwheeler cruise on the Chena River aboard the Riverboat Discovery. Along the route you will see a bush plane take off, see a champion line of Alaskan husky sled dogs, and gain insight into the ancient Athabaskan Indian culture during a stop at Chena Village.

Day 8

Fairbanks to Anchorage (by air)

Today you will transfer via hotel courtesy shuttle to Fairbanks Airport for a scheduled flight back to Anchorage. The flight time is an hour, so once in Anchorage you will have the remainder of the day to explore.

Day 9

Journey Home

Time for some last minute sightseeing or shopping before transfiguring on your own to Anchorage International Airport and checking-in for your flight back to the UK.
