Whitefield

Nestled on the John’s River in the White Mountains, Whitefield is quintessential New England with beautiful Victorian architecture, a landmark bandstand on the picturesque common known as King’s Square.

Take the children to see the magic of Christmas at Santa’s Village or ride the world’s first cog railway to the top of Mount Washington. Take a hike up Weeks State Park Road and enjoy the view of the mountains from the always open Fire Tower. It’s a great short and easy hike with plenty of views to make it worth your while. In the heart of the White Mountain National Forest, the Franconia Notch State Park is a spectacular mountain pass. Harbored in its midst, a one-of-a-kind eight-mile parkway connects the peaks of the Kinsman and Franconia mountain ranges. Ride your bike, swim in Echo Lake, visit the Old Man of the Mountain Historic Site or hike on the Appalachian Trail.

Visit some of the nearby picturesque villages including Littleton Village with its Chutter’s Guinness world record-holding “longest candy counter.

Bretton Woods

Welcome to the White Mountain National Forest and New England’s year-round resort. A pleasant 3-hour drive north of Boston. White Mountain National Forest is the largest ski area in New England. Enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, dog sledding and all the fun winter sports which are available.

In Summer and Autumn enjoy a round of golf, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Hike or horseback ride some of the beautiful trails or try out fly fishing or archery. Just a few ideas to fill your days in a relaxing atmosphere. Take the cogwheel train to Mount Washington, New England’s highest peak, and walk around the observatory.

Take the kids to Santa’s Village or not for the faint at heart – try the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, open year-round, a 3-hour tour takes you on a total of 10 zip lines and across suspension bridges.

Jackson

Just 70 miles from Portland, Maine, Jackson is located in the beautiful White Mountains. The area’s landscape, complete with the Jackson “Honeymoon” covered bridge built in 1876, white steeple churches, high mountains, and rolling farmland is picture perfect.

In summer hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, and golfing are just some of the outdoor activities available. In winter ice skating, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, dog sledding downhill, and cross-country skiing on some of the finest trails in the East await you.

Take the cogwheel train to Mount Washington, New England’s highest peak, and walk around the observatory.

North Conway

With a backdrop of the White Mountain National Forest and Mount Washington, North Conway is a true four seasons destination. In summer enjoy a round of golf and admire the scenic views or take to the trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. The Saco River is just one popular destination in the area where visitors can enjoy the cool waters while floating down the river in a canoe or kayak, or try rafting. Relax and enjoy a day boating and fishing for trout, salmon, or bass.

In winter head for the hills and have some fun in the snow. Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding and sleigh rides are just part of the program. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling are other options to suit your frame of mind.

While in the area you can shop at the North Conway outlet malls, and other local hand-craft, antique and gift shops, see a play at one of the area playhouses, ride one of the area’s scenic train rides, take a scenic ride and a dip in the cool mountain waters along the Kancamagus Highway, visit Diana’s Baths waterfalls or one of the many area family attractions that North Conway and the Mount Washington Valley has to offer.

While in North Conway, don’t forget to enjoy the local cuisine in one of the nearly 100 area restaurants and cafes.

Gorham

Gorham, New Hampshire is nestled in the Androscoggin Valley and adjacent to the Presidential Range. When visiting Gorham, discover interesting shops, delightful restaurants, and nearby recreational activities.

Jericho Mountain State Park is the perfect place for ATV, UTV, and snowmobile enthusiasts. Ride the Wild, the nation’s best-interconnected summertime ATV trail system offers miles of trails and scenic outlooks throughout the area.

Learn about the history of Gorham at the Gorham Historical Society Museum, a 1907 GTRR depot museum with town and railroad history. Gorham also offers moose tours, which are a big hit as you hunt for the large, majestic creatures in the woods. Enjoy the town’s peaceful rivers and lakes with a guided kayak trip from the Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center. Drive yourself or book a guided tour to travel up the Mount Washington Auto Road to the summit to get a bird’s eye view of the White Mountains region.
