Lunenburg, Western Shore & Peggy’s Cove

Picturesque Lunenburg is a port town nestled along the scenic south shore of Nova Scotia and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Once a large rum running and ship building port, Lunenburg still features original architecture from the 1700’s, with buildings from the British Colonial era painted in bright colours. The historic working waterfront offers a unique maritime setting, so much so that many films have been shot here.

Lunenburg’s fine artisans capture the tradition of their maritime heritage in their work, in local art galleries and gift shops along the harbour side streets. Visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and learn more of the town’s maritime history.

Stroll through the town spotting numerous sites along the way or take a walking tour to discover more about the fascinating history and culture. Refuel along the waterfront with the catch of the day, homemade chowder, fresh lobster or oysters.

Later, why not explore the old rum runner trails by bike or by foot, discovering secret ocean alcoves, hidden ports and traditional distilleries along the way.

Western Shore is located along the scenic south coast of Nova Scotia. The shoreline is dotted with colourful, quaint seaside communities such as Chester and Mahone Bay, similar to antique paintings, which come to life with their own distinct characteristics and remarkable stories, told in the local galleries and museums such as the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and Ross Farm.

Golf courses, like the Graham Ross-designed Osprey Ridge Golf Club, are as alluring as they are challenging. Natural gems like Kejimkujik National Park and The Ovens Natural Park entice you with the promise of discovery and fun.

Home to the world famous Peggy’s Point Lighthouse built in 1915, Peggy’s Cove is popular attraction. With a population of just 76 the cove is a place that is truly a world apart with stunning vistas, open to all the elements. The rugged granite shores and powerful tides of nearby have enthralled artists and adventurers from around the world for generations.

Spend the day here watching the waves and exploring the rocks or stroll through picture perfect scenes of houses perched along narrow inlets.
