Kingston & Thousand Islands

The historic city of Kingston, located in eastern Ontario is the gateway to the world-famous Thousand Islands, is touched by the currents of Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River and the Cataraqui River.

The Thousand Islands are a group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, straddling the border of the U.S. and Canada. A fashionable retreat for the elite in the late 19th century, today the area is a hub for outdoor activities. It’s home to elaborate island mansions such as the German-style Boldt Castle on Heart Island, and Singer Castle on Dark Island, with its Gothic windows and secret passageways.

Known for its markets and its striking 19th-century limestone architecture, Kingston is a great base for exploring the Thousand Islands and the St. Lawrence River and its national park. Take a cruise through the Thousand Islands or the ferry over to Wolfe Island. Wander through Kingston Public Market, the oldest market in Canada.

Downtown Kingston, and the popular Princess Street, is the cultural and entertainment hub and features phenomenal shopping options, art galleries, bars and restaurants.

Step back in time and explore Fort Henry, attend a Victorian School experience. Visit Rideau Canal National Historic Site of Canada, today a UNESCO world heritage site and don’t miss the Royal Military College of Canada Museum. Kingston is also home to the first Canadian Prime Minister, Sir John Alexander Macdonald’s estate, Bellevue House.

The waterfront also hosts an array of activities, with 5 miles of beaches, parks, shops and dining options set amongst historic. Stroll around the Confederation Basin Marina buzzing with activity. Alternatively get out on the water and sail, canoe, kayak or paddle board along the St Lawrence River.
